At 6:42 pm on January 6, 2024, after the No. 1 unit of Anhui Changjiang Steel’s 80MW energy-saving and emission-reduction gas-fired power generation project was successfully connected to the grid and generated electricity, the No. 2 unit of the project was also successfully connected to the grid at one time and generated electricity smoothly.

It is reported that Anhui Changjiang Iron and Steel originally had two 35MW high-temperature and high-pressure gas generating units and one 12MW medium-temperature and medium-pressure gas generating unit. After many years of operation, the thermal efficiency of the three generator sets has significantly reduced, and they can no longer meet the company’s gas balance requirements. In order to implement the national energy conservation and emission reduction policy, after dismantling and shutting down the original unit facilities, a new 2x260t/h ultra-high temperature subcritical gas boiler, 2x80MW intermediate primary reheat steam turbine, 2x85MW generator and supporting auxiliary facilities were built. After the two units are put into operation, the annual power generation capacity is 1.28 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to an annual carbon reduction of 235,000 tons, enabling clean, low-carbon and efficient utilization of gas resources.
It is understood that although my country’s steel production capacity ranks first in the world, a large amount of coal gas is produced during the steel smelting process. In the past, this coal gas was mostly burned and discharged in a “sky lantern” manner, except for a small amount used for power generation in small-capacity and low-parameter gas boilers, which not only caused a large amount of energy waste, but also seriously polluted the environment.
With the development and upgrading of my country’s power generation technology and the proposal of the “dual carbon” goal, gas power generation has become one of the country’s emerging energy-saving and environmental protection fields.
The completion of the Anhui Changjiang Steel 80M energy-saving and emission-reduction gas-fired power generation project marks a new breakthrough for Changjiang Steel in achieving the “dual carbon” goals. In the future, it will be able to achieve an annual power generation of 1.076 billion kWh and an annual power supply of 995 million kWh. The power generation can be increased by 449 million kWh, and carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 315,900 tons annually, achieving a “win-win” situation in economic and social benefits.
