A “water-swallowing monster” is stationed at the west gate of Fengqing Park in Lianhu District, Xi’an. It is one of the largest integrated prefabricated pumping stations for rainwater and sewage extraction in Northwest China. It can extract 36,000 tons of water per hour, which means it can drain the artificial lake in Fengqing Park in 1.5 hours. With it guarding the park, the flood problem that has ravaged the area around Fengqing Park for thousands of years is expected to be eradicated.
The sponge city construction project in Xiaozhai area of Xi’an City takes solving the problem of waterlogging in Xiaozhai as its starting point, adapts to local conditions, gives priority to ecology, combines the ecological conditions of Xi’an, highlights the protection of the original ecology, selects multiple measures such as infiltration, retention, storage, purification, use and discharge according to local conditions, uses the existing lake body of Fengqing Lake for storage and regulation, comprehensively utilizes the water space, uses gravity self-flow and pump station for forced discharge of water, and uses gravity discharge for drainage. After the construction is completed, the current lake function will be restored.
